What is the best way to visit Thailand/Bangkok?

I’m thinking of going to visit Thailand/Bangkok for 1 or 2 weeks before I head to school. Should I join a tour from here or take a chance and go by myself and then join a local tour there? It seems that Bangkok is relatively safe from what I read online, but I don’t want to get lost or strande in a foreign country either.HotelsCombined.com - Pack full of the best deals

I think that the cheapest for you would be to go on a tour.
The local tour companies will probably cheat you.
And Thailand is a safe place, yes, only that the homicide rate is nearly twice the US.

Where can I buy a Mac clone in Bangkok, Thailand?

Thailand is a relatively safe country as long as you avoid the southern provinces where Muslim terrorists are doing their best to cause terror! Hotel accomodations are relatively inexpensive and there are numerous tours around Bangkok and other areas of the country. Most hotels have excellent concierge services that can help you schedule your tours. If you are American,no visa is required if you plan to be there for less than 30 days. The Thai people are very friendly and violent crime is rare.My main advice is to beware of pickpockets by carrying your valuables in a front pocket.I think you’ll enjoy the trip! I’ve been to Thailand many times and am married to a Thai.

The above answer pretty much sums it up nicely.

You will be fine as long as you exercise some travelling "common sense" and personal security (like… don’t go out to dark places at night alone, and don’t accept food from strangers and don’t go somewhere with a stranger alone)

Bangkok is geared for foreign tourists and most hotels and tourist places speak enough english to be able to help you with anything.

You can book tours there, what you can do is check with the travel desk at your hotel or tour agency nearby. Pick what you like and go. There are many tours that you may not find online.

yeah – I think one of the enjoyable things abt living here is that it is relatively safe compared to a more violent western world.. Just use your common sense – that does not mean that you will not be approached by con artists in tourist areas telling you that you can buy their "gems" and sell them for a big profit – back home.. The above advice is good – no tour necessary as even chintzy guesthouses will be able to hook you up with reliable day trips.. Have fun -

You should take a tour from where you are. You can take a local tour to, but you should note not alot of people speak english. But if you go on a tour, you won’t be able to explore as much, you will have to follow whereever your tour guide takes you. You could have a personal guide like i do when i go to other places with my family.
