Hi, the locals are used to the mossies that probably they do not show the bites up much. They do still get bitten same as any one else. There is nothing special that they are wearing to protect themselves. In any case, mossies do bite silently so not many people are aware that thgey are being bitten, unless they have sensitive skin and can feel the needle-like prick of being bitten.

People do react differently to being bitten by the mossies. Some have allergic reaction and the bite area turns into boil and sore while others with milder effect have a red and blotted mark, and some may not even show the bite spot.

For you, looks like you do get a mild reaction to the mossie bite. You can easily get anti-mossies spray from any pharmacy to help keep them away, but do know that the effect will wear off after some hours and a re-application is necessary.

Hey, maybe over time after being bitten, your body may build up its own resistance that the mossie bite may not even be noticeable.

You can wear long sleeves and pants at night to keep them off your bare skin, this will help.

I am planning to go on honeymoon in Thailand this December but I am worried about the current political situation in Bangkok.. Is it safe?

First of all the protests are limited to one very specific area of the city where you probably would never visit anyways. So is it safe for tourists?

Absolutely! You have more chance to get ripped off by a scammer that you do by the protesters. There is zero danger to tourists here and anyone that tells you any differently does not live here like I do.

Was going to spend some time in Bangkok. So just wanted to know which mobile phone service provider and dsl internet service provider I should get when i get there. Thanks.

Advanced Info Services (AIS) is Thailand’s largest mobile phone service provider and works very well in Bangkok, their 1 2 Call prepaid service is a good way to go if you don’t want to sign any contracts. They have many different plans, so it’s good to ask about them before you buy a sim card. Dtac is the #2 provider and also is good, both providers offer good discounts within their networks which may influence your decision as to which company to use. TOT and True are the biggest ISP’s, and are also the two largest wired phone services in Bangkok. You often have to use an ISP depending on who supplies your phone service, I have a TOT phone line and True Internet services are not available to me, only TOT. That’s not always the case, you have to check depending on where you live. My broadband TOT service (1 MB) is just okay with occasional drops and is sometimes hard to connect, I know some True users that are very happy and some that aren’t.

I’m looking for a very cheap gym that could help me out in starters, like a cheap one so i can stay in for more than a month can anyone help me out please?

"Fighting Spirit Gym" is a great option. It’s on Silom road which is a much nicer area than Khao sarn Rd. brand new everything and very professional. I think they just started offering rooms on premises a few months ago.
Otherwise, if you’re at semi-pro to pro level, you can go to any of the many camps around the country. Most foreigners don’t last past the first day, but if you think you got what it takes, there are a few camps around Bangkok.

What are some things to do in Bangkok, Thailand?

I will be traveling to Bangkok for business in early May, and will be taking my wife with me. It is our first time there. We will have one weekend to ourselves, but other than those two days, my days will be taken up with work. What are some things that we can do or see together after my business day has ended? Any recommendations for the weekend? We would also like to know of some nice restaurants for while we are there.

There are some night tours that you can sign up for. Find the nearest travel agency and take a look at their menu selection of available tours. There is a Dinner Cruise that begins around 6 PM. You can take a full day River Kwai tour. The tour company picks you up at your hotel and returns you there at the end of the tour.

Lots of good restaurants you can choose from. For some variety you can check out some of the food courts that are in many malls. If you are lucky and have a hotel near a Skytrain stop you can use that transportation to get around town pretty easy. Bangkok is famous for all sorts of nightlife. Just walking around Sukhumvit Road such as the Sukhumvit Soi 4 area and Patpong you will be able to "sample" some of this nightlife.

You can do some shopping at the MBK. The MBK is off a Skytrain stop and has lots of food courts as well as electronics, supermarkets, arts and crafts shops, and a movie theater too! New Phetchaburi Road is another good area for shopping. The computer mall, Panthip Plaza has lots of computer and electronics available. The area leading up to and near the Baiyoke Tower Hotel (almost across from the Panthip Plaza) is a mini garment center. Many of the street vendors get their stuff from this area.

Meter taxi cabs are cheaper than tuk-tuks IF you tell the driver "meter only!" Lots of taxi cabs to choose from if the driver wants to bargain the price get another! I would avoid parked taxi cabs outside hotels, especially expensive hotels, because they often want to bargain the fare. Wave a moving taxi down and tell the driver where you want to go and to use the meter! Price for a taxi in Bangkok if for everyone you can fit in and is quite reasonable.

Contrary to Guangdongman, with a full wallet, you can get women in any country, including China.

Anyway, you can do sports fishing in fish farms out east and south of the city. There are even shops who bring you for open water fishing.

if your not thai your not going to get a work permit to work in a hotel or be an office clerk, these jobs do not require any special skill that any thai person could do. a office or hotel clerk will not make more the 5,000 baht a month.

My Grandma and I are staying at the Grand China Princess Hotel in Bangkok. We want to go to the Jim Thompson House which is a 9 minute drive. How much would it be for a tuk tuk or a taxi? Also how much would it be for a meal (cheap) in Bangkok in US dollars? Do you recommend any other sights in Bangkok? Any info will help.

First off your in China Town a travel jam in itself so you may forget about a 9 minute ride maybe 20 would be closer depending on traffic. A tuk tuk is not the way I would want to take my grandma around Bangkok, the heat, humidity, and fumes is not enjoyable. I would say about 60 to 80 baht for taxi depending on the traffic. You can get lunch at any stand for 30 to 40 baht if you want to eat Thai, western food figure 100 to 200 baht for lunch. Try going to the Grand Place, Wat Po and Khao San Road.

I will be traveling to Bangkokg, Thailand to learn Thai there.
What Thai language school is the best?

I learn at AUA. It takes a long time, hundreds of hours because you learn by listening. In the early lessons they draw on the board so that you know what they are talking about.

The idea is that you learn the words as opposed to translating to Thai from English. It should also make your pronunciation much better.

AUA has the reputation for producing the best Thai speakers, but it does take longer than other courses. I have completed 500 hours and still a long way to go.

The good thing is that there are no fixed time you just turn up when you want. This means it will fit in easily with whatever else you are doing.
