I’ve been to the hotels, bank, and western union so far. None will take it. Does anyone know a specific bank that does? Maybe i’m just hitting the wrong ones?

Pratically no! The only bank that would exchange peso for thai baht is Bangkok Bank, because they have a branch in the Philippines. Not sure they still do or not, and not sure either whether they have a branch in Samui, and if so if they do.
I did change my Peso to Thai baht in Bangkok at the Bangkok Bank and the rate is suck.. Something like 30% less.

Is it possible to go to Kosamui and Phi Phi Island by Speedboat ?

Let me explain i flying to surat thani and my plan whas to get to phuket hire a boat and get then to the Phi Phi island.

I whant also to do the same to get to Kosamui.
Get to don sak and take a speedboat.

How much would it cost to rent a speedboat for those trips ??

I searched over the internet but found nothing.

urm. i just got back from phi phi and you can hire speedboats out there. i’m not sure how easily you can get one from phuket out there but i remember reading on a leaflet in my hotel that you can get a one or 2 way speedboat journey to a pier thing in phuket and krabi and i cant be certain but i think it was between 9,000 THB but i dont remember if thats one way or both or what. if you’ve booked the hotel out there, get in touch with them to see if they can get one to bring you over. i remember seeing prices between 9,000-17,000 baht. i think the 17,000 was for a whole day.

i stayed at phi phi island village hotel. and got the SeaAngel/Andaman Cruise Ferry from Phuket out there and then back again. took about an hour and a half straight to Tonsai Bay. and then we just used longtail boats to get around so i dont remember the prices of speedboats but theres a lot around there doing trips so shouldnt be too much trouble getting hold of one, but it was never in our plan to get oen so i wasnt paying attention to details of them.

as for koh samui, no idea. i havnt been there but i would take a gamble at no? cause i think it’s a long way, most people fly out there as its not so remote and is further out to see.

Ko Samui isn’t so far from phuket, when I was there I got a boat (most of the journey is across sea) it was really cheap, no more than £5/ $8. That was a few years ago but it probably is similar, your really best waiting untill you get there.

Whatever you do: Do not forget your baggage! This is very important if you intend to go on to a domestic airport. Your baggage will not be redirected automatically at Bangkok Airport, so you’ll have to pick it up, move to the domestic terminal and check-in your baggage again. You would not be the first traveler who arrives at Koh Samui, while the baggage is still in Bangkok …

Continue reading »]]> i am planing on a trip to koh samui . i checked air fares and they are pretty high so i decided to take a bus or train to go there . so please help me :
1- how long does it take to go from bangkok to Koh samui by train / bus ?
2- how much will it cost?

The most convenient way to go to Koh Samui is with the night train and by purchasing a "combination ticket" which includes:

Train ticket
Bus transfer from Surat Thani railway station to ferry pier
Express boat ticket

At Bangkok railway station (Hua Lamphong) you will find a color marked ticket counter on the left side of the counters. There you can buy the combined tickets. You can choose your mode of transportation – 1st or 2nd class, seat or sleeper (recommended) and Ac or fan.

Price for a combined ticket is app. 800 Baht for 2nd class and app. 1200 Baht for 1st class.

You also can buy just the train ticket if you prefer to go by ferry to Koh Samui. Buses to the 2 ferries (Raja Ferry and Seatran Ferry) are waiting in front of Surat Thani railway station. Tickets for the transfer and ferry are issued at the bus.

Tickets can be purchased also at SRT ticket agencies and Bangkok Airport..

Travel time from Surat Thani railway station to Koh Samui is app. 2.5 hours

If you’re thinking about taking a trip to Asia this season, then you have many regions from which you can choose a specific region to take a trip to. The most recommended sight is the Walled City of Baku, which is located in Azerbaijan. Some other places in Asia that are worth seeing are the Batu Caves, Temple of the Reclining Buddha, the Royal Grand Palace and several others in Southeast Asia.

Continue reading »]]> We want to stay in bungalow in Koh Samui for xmas new year 2007/08.Any recommendations for cheap clean accommodation close to Chaweng beach?Has anyone done any scuba diving in Koh Samui?

I did but was some ten years ago. Chaweng is the best beach in Koh Samui. I stayed there when there was no hotel around and in huts. Really nice, but now there are hotels on the beach itself. Some of them are five stars and very good. Scuba diving in Samui is OK and quite fun. Enjoy it.
