hi!
I would like to buy good quality stuff as a backpack, hiking boots, knee and ankle braces, hiking sticks etc.
would these items be cheaper in Thailand than in europe?
Do you know such a shop in bangkok or chiang mai?
Khob khun mak khrab!
There's a North Face store in the Central World Plaza mall that should have most of the items you mentioned as well as a huge Super Sports store in the same mall that has a good selection of outdoor gear. Sorry, I don't know whether it's cheaper here or in Europe, perhaps the website has pricing information:

if you really want proper fitting stuff, and good quality, i would buy before you fly. However heaps of places to buy that sort of stuff in bangkok-not as many in chiang mai.

the back-pack is not a problem to buy in Thailand but the rest is a bit specialised for a population not known to enjoy walking.

Most people only carry a backpack from the taxi to the hotel and then leave it there and use a smaller day bag.
You will look really silly walking around town looking like "Ramar of the Jungle" with your ankle braces and hiking stick!
If you have really large feet, size 12 or above you may have a hard time finding shoes that will fit proper. If so, buy back home and take them with you!
Maybe the Siam Discovery Mall can help you.
