What can i do in Krabi and Koh Samui, in Thailand?
I have checked out TripAdvisor but there doesn’t seem to be anything that great to do in Krabi or Koh Samui. This obviously isn’t the case there must be great things to do out there. If anyone has been there and has done anything they thought was great please can you tell me! Thanks! I have been to Krabi twice. It’s fantastic. You don’t actually want to spend much time in Krabi town. You want to go to the beaches around Railay. It’s on a peninsula, but you can’t get there by car, only by boat. Railay is tons of fun. Known for beautiful beaches, great guest houses, and lots of sport climbing. To get there from Bangkok, take an overnight train to Surat Thani. Second class sleeper with air-con is $15-$20 and lots of fun. In the morning, get off the train and take a bus to Krabi Town. Lots of coach buses are waiting to take you. In Krabi Town, take a Songthow (red pick-up trucks that act like buses) to Ao Nang. Walk to the beach and take a long tail boat to Railay beach. They may stop at Ton Sai first (you can stay there also), then take you to the expensive accomadation side of Railay. It has the nicer beach, but a 5 min walk takes you to the other side of the peninsula and much cheaper lodging. And I was there when the Tsunami hit. Krabi wasn’t damaged nearly as much as Koh Phi Phi or Phuket. I stayed for two weeks at Railay after the Tsunami with no problems at all. By now, the whole west coast is functional. They need tourists to come back to help the economy recover. Have fun!!!

be bored by stoned western kids all thinking they’ve broken away from society’s boundaries as they text daddy for more money…

The tourist area of Krabi is all beach oriented stuff, no real town. lots of little "Island" type shacks for eating and drinking. Unless you are a heavy beach & party person you may feel isolated and get bored there after a few days. There is no place within walking distance. Krabi may still be recovering from the Tsunami. Koh Samui Has more nice beaches and it is a real town with paved streets lots of shops, resturants and more things to do. Tsunami did not affect Koh Samui. Phuket is even bigger and more family oriented. Koh Panang has a smaller but great beach and hosts the wildest Full Moon parties.

Been there, done that…
I haven’t been to Koh Samui, but I’ve heard it’s far too touristy and crowded.
