Thinking of Thailand as a tour destination? Think exotic, oriental, majestic and more!
Thailandâ??s boundaries stretch to neighboring regions of Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Malaysia, the Gulf of Thailand and the Indian Ocean. The exciting Eastern city of Thailand offers immense scope for sea, air and road travel, the holiday plan usually dependent on a touristâ??s budget. Its four main regions, namely North, Central Plain or the Chao Phraya River Basin, North East (Korat Plateau) and South Peninsula live up to the true meaning of â??thai,â?? literally meaning free and denoting the same in its multicultural diversity that happily coexists with its diverse inhabitants.
Agriculturally rich, with paddy fields dotted landscape that make room for heritage palaces and famous temples alike, modern Thailand comes as a pleasant surprise for the global traveler: natural beauty of many beaches and islands, innumerable shopping bargains and vibrant festivities of carnivals and shopping centers that offer wide variety in local foods and gourmet cuisine, exotic hill – tribe villages and ancient ruins all contribute to Thailandâ??s cosmopolitan air as a tour destination.

Thailand as a tour destination: its many exciting activities and pleasures.
Buddhism is the main religion in Thailand with the King of Thailand revered as the supreme monarch and also the patron of all religions embraced by the people. Thus, Thailand has religious tolerance woven into its social fabric and respects people of all races. This multiculturalism makes Thailand a hot favorite as a tour destination for the global traveler with add-on visits to nearby cities like Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Butterworth and other major southern Thai towns being part of an avid touristâ??s list. Places of tourist interest in Thailand include Phuket, Koh Samui, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Krabi, Pattaya, Hua Hin, Koh Chang and Koh Samet while provinces like Krabi, Koh Libong, Koh Hai provides great photographic memoirs of Thailand as a tour destination.

Should we cancel our Thailand/Phuket trip?
My boyfriend and I have booked a 8 day trip to Phuket and 2 nights in Bangkok in February of next year;
with all the terrorist threats around popular tourist destinations in Thailand we are becoming a bit anxious and are considering cancelling our trip because we won’t enjoy it when we are a bit fearful for our safety.
I’m just wondering what our other options would be; like beautiful beach getaways.
We are losing $550 that we have deposited and our prior booking was aimed at about $5500 all together including flights, insurances, accommodation including food, tours and transfers. So so sad on missing out on the Phi Phi Island beauty.
Is there anywhere else that anyone could recommend within the same price limit and similar beautiful lifestyle; e.g. Fiji, Samoa or elsewhere ??

I once let the threat of terrorism stop me from taking a trip of a lifetime. In 1986, after we bombed Tripoli and Benghazi, Qaddafi threatened to turn the countries around the Mediterranean into a “ring of fire.”
I let this keep me from backpacking through Europe. I wish I had chosen differently.
Yes there is a risk, but look at the situation this way:
1) Is this trip something you have your hearts set on?
2) What are the actual odds something would actually happen? How many people travel there without any problems with terrorists?
My advice is to go for it if the answer to the first question is yes.

There is no need to cancel your trip the current problems will be over by February and it will be ‘business as usual’. The Thai people are generally a non violent people and this current problem is almost a regular event.
There has been many coups in Thailand in the past 10 years usually led by the military sometimes with the support of the King.
I have travelled to Thailand many times and twice while there was a coup in progress. I have never encountered any problems.
At the moment there is some chaos at the airports but this will not last.
The Thai people rely on tourism for over 50% of their income and I would expect the the King will step in and resolve the stand off within the next few days.
You will have a very enjoyable time in Thailand and Phuket. The Thai people are very friendly.

Why not consider to come to Malaysia. Langkawi in northern part of Malaysia is a world famous island resort. Langkawi has white sandy beaches with crystal clear sea water , just like Phuket.
While in Langkawi , you can monitor the situation in Phuket. In everything seems fine there, you can still go there from Langkawi. From northern Malaysia, you can take a train / bus / flight to Phuket which is not far away ( eg. a few hours of train ride only )
